Changed Lives

Theological education and ministry formation change lives. In the process of deepening faith, challenging minds, expanding hearts, and energizing for mission, God is at work in seminarians and in the world. Read more about changed lives:

Katy Grindberg, PLTS M.Div. Alum

“On Easter morning 2001, I said yes to God’s call to ordained ministry in the ELCA. A year later, I said yes to God’s call to attend seminary at PLTS. There are many things that made PLTS a good fit for me. While looking at seminaries, I was attracted to the size of the community, the natural beauty of the Bay Area, and PLTS’ association with the Graduate Theological Union. But when it came down to making a decision about where to go to school, the deciding factor was the financial aid package that PLTS was able to offer me. I stayed at PLTS because of all of the things I mentioned above, but primarily because of the strength and character of the faculty. After I graduated with a Masters of Divinity in May 2006, I decided to stay to obtain an M.A. in Liturgical Studies—largely due to how I was challenged and inspired by the PLTS faculty. Financial concerns made this a very difficult decision. Higher education is expensive, and the cost of living in Berkeley is high, but I am trying to respond faithfully to God’s call, and I continue to find that God has ways of surprising me.”

Amanda Cormack, Alum

“PLTS is a seminary for today’s world—a theological education enriched by ecumenical dialogue, led by some of the greatest minds in the church. Add the diversity and social consciousness of Berkeley; the beauty of the PLTS locale; and an intimate academic community, and you have an ideal setting for preparing Lutheran pastors to serve the church in the 21st century. A seminary education is expensive anywhere, even more so in the Bay Area. Your continued support of PLTS ensures that this matchless education is available to the highly qualified applicants pursuing a call to ministry. Your gifts provide student financial aid, much-needed upgrades to facilities and equipment, even endowments to ensure outstanding faculty. Thank you for the gifts you’ve already given to PLTS. I hope that you will continue your support.”
