Rev. R. Scott Haasarud

Scott Haasarud was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the only child of Rolf Oliver Haasarud and Rowena Ric.  He grew up in Berkeley, California, and in 1962 he graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

At St. Olaf, Scott me his future wife, Jeannette Thompson of Eagle Grove, Iowa.  They were married in 1963 in the St. Olaf Chapel, and in subsequent years were blessed with three children.

Rev. Haasarud received his MDiv degree from PLTS in 1966.  It was during this time that he was introduced to Four Springs Retreat, a facility north of the Bay area that explores integration between religion and psychology, as well as personal growth.  He developed a deep relationship with co-founder, Elizabeth Howes that fundamentally shaped his theological point of view.  He went on to do his internship in Atlanta, Georgia and eventually completed his Doctorate of Ministry at San Francisco Theological Seminary.  He continued his studies at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland.

After ordination, Rev. Haasarud served ministries at Shepherd of the Valley in Spring Valley, Messiah in Pasadena (both in California), Faith in Phoenix, Arizona and the International Interdenominational Church of Stavanger, Norway.

After leaving Stavanger, he served for five years as the Executive Director of Holden Village in Washington State.

Returning to Phoenix in 1994, Rev. Haasarud served Christ the King there, and then transitioned to Director of Spiritual Life and Programming at Spirit in the Desert Lutheran Retreat Center in Carefree, Arizona.  He assisted in founding the Phoenix Friends of Jung, and was a vital member of the North American Retreat Directors Association.  At the time of his death, he was the Spiritual Director of Shepherd of the Valley in Phoenix.

God bless this faithful servant of God.
