Other Forms of Financial Aid

Stafford Student Loans

PLTS participates in the federal Direct Loan program. Under this program, student loans are funded by the federal government. Students may borrow up to $20,500 through the unsubsidized Direct Loan program. Total financial aid awards, including loans, cannot exceed the total cost of education as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

The 2019-20 interest rate on an unsubsidized loan is 6.08 percent. Interest payments may be deferred while the student is enrolled at least half-time. Accrued interest will be added to the principle balance after the student graduates, leaves school or drops below half-time enrollment.

Financial Aid for GTU Common Master of Arts Students

GTU Common MA students affiliated with PLTS pay their tuition and continuing fees to PLTS and, accordingly, apply for PLTS Grant in Aid and Federal Student Aid as described above.

Scholarships for Theological Education

Many synods and congregations offer scholaships for theological education.  Students should apply for those scholarships directly to the respective organizations. Students are also encouraged to seek assistance from civic organizations, trust funds and foundations. California Lutheran University matches some scholarships from congregations, with an application for the Congregational Partners in Education Scholarship.
